Carers Rights Day 2020

Carers Rights Day 2020

Every year Carers Rights Day encourages unpaid carers to find out about their rights and how to get the help and support they need. This year Carers Rights Day is on Thursday 26th November 2020.

Many people care for a loved one on a daily basis, often unpaid, whilst still dealing with their own lives and families. In addition, a recent survey by Carers UK (of nearly 6,000 carers) found that 78% reported that the needs of the person they care for have increased during the Covid-19 pandemic. So, we want to take this opportunity to remind carers about the help that they are entitled to and the many ways that Crossroads can support them.

In addition to the telephone advice we can offer to carers who live in Sandwell, Birmingham, Walsall or Wolverhampton, we offer specialist services for all age carers in Dudley, carers over the age of 18 in Sandwell, bereaved carers in Birmingham and carers of someone with dementia in Sandwell and Birmingham. Visit www.crossroads-caringforcarers.org/services/ to see which of our teams may be able to help you.

Our Caring for Carers Dementia Support Group (Birmingham) will be hosting a virtual carers group session via Zoom on Carers Rights Day, Thursday 26th November, 11am – 12.30pm – with the opportunity to ask our Group Coordinator any questions you may have about carers rights and speak to other carers in a similar situation.

Chris Christie, Crossroads CEO said, “We are proud to be supporting Carer’s Rights Day. Caring for another person is an incredibly difficult thing to do and we want carers to know how and when their rights are not being met and how they can challenge this. We want to empower carers with information and support, so they can feel confident asking for what they need. We hope that by raising awareness of this important day, more people will be able to access vital help and resources when they need it.”
