We will once again be supporting Carers Week this year (9 – 15 June 2025). Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges that unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
This year the theme is ‘Caring About Equality’ – the inequalities faced by unpaid carers, including a greater risk of poverty, social isolation, poor mental and physical health. Far too often, carers of all-ages miss out on opportunities in their education, careers, or personal lives, just because of their caring role.
We have a week jam-packed with events, as well as daily ‘Spotlight’ features on our social media channels. Keep a look out each day for facts and information about how we can break down some of the barriers and inequalities faced by carers and the support that Crossroads can offer.
On Thursday 12th June we will be hosting a Carers Information Marketplace, 10am – 3pm, at The Oak Tree Centre, Oldbury, B68 0JP. We are pleased to share that we will be joined by representatives from Rentokil Initial, who will be presenting us with a generous donation, as well as bringing along an ice cream van.
But forget everything you know about ice cream – as part of Rentokil’s 100 Charities initiative and summer ‘Pestival’, they will be handing out free ice creams from 11am, with 6 unique toppings. From milk chocolate ‘cricketto’ (whole crickets in rich milk chocolate), to mealworm swirl, these edible creepy crawlies will have you taking part in your very own bushtucker trial!
Everyone is welcome to find out more about the support that Crossroads and other local organisations can offer to unpaid carers, take a break from your caring role, or just come and sample the ice-cream. Together let’s work towards an equal society, where carers are truly valued, recognised and supported.
