Why Family Carer Training Matters
Many people become carers overnight and are expected to help a loved one with mobility, transfers or daily care without any formal training.
Learning safe moving and handling techniques can help you:
- Reduce the risk of injury for both you and the person you care for
- Build confidence in your caring role
- Learn how to use specialist equipment correctly
- Improve comfort, dignity and independence for the person you support
- Continue caring safely at home for longer where appropriate
Our experienced trainers provide practical, personalised guidance that is easy to understand and tailored to your individual circumstances.

Moving and Handling Training in Your Home
Our most popular service is personalised home-based Moving and Handling Training.
Rather than practising in a classroom, our trainer visits your home and demonstrates safe techniques using the equipment you already use every day.
This allows us to provide advice that reflects your home environment, available space and the individual needs of the person you care for.
Training may include guidance on:
- Safe moving and handling techniques
- Using hoists and lifting equipment
- Transfer boards and other mobility aids
- Bed mobility and repositioning
- Health and safety considerations
- Reducing the risk of falls and injury

Who Can Access Training?
Family Carer Training is designed for unpaid carers who support a family member or loved one at home.
Depending on where the person you care for lives, their GP and local funding arrangements, you may be eligible for free Moving and Handling Training, particularly for equipment already supplied through local health or social care services.
If you’re unsure whether you qualify, our team will be happy to discuss your circumstances.
