We are so proud of our Dudley Carers Wellbeing Service and the carers of all ages that they support who were winners or highly commended in multiple categories at the Carers Awards, hosted by We Love Carers on 8th June, during Carers Week 2023.
Firstly, Tracey Dalloway, one of our brilliant Young Carer Advisers was the winner in the Professional That Goes Above and Beyond category. Tracey’s tireless commitment to Dudley Young Carers is an inspiration to everyone – she’s a very deserving winner of this award for the amazing work she does to support young carers, always putting them first.
The coveted Young Carer of the Year Award was won jointly by Millie, who is 17 and the sole carer for her mum who has muscular dystrophy and Aleigha, who is 14 and cares for her grandma who is elderly and dad who has severe learning disabilities. Well done girls, you both do an amazing job, selflessly putting others first whilst trying to balance the demands of home, school and personal lives.
The Mayors Carer Recognition Award was awarded to young carer Emmy, who at 9 years old, helps to care for her brother who has ASD, ADHD, SPD, ODD, Tourette’s and dyslexia. Emmy is a superstar who is such a big help to her family and an inspiration to others for the compassion and care she shows. We would also like to give a special mention to young carers Isabelle and Edmar who were highly commended in this category.
The Carer Above and Beyond Award went to young adult carer Lewis, who is 22 years old. Lewis has been volunteering at Dudley Young Carers regular youth club for over a year and he has really stepped up to support the youngsters who attend, not only by organising team sports and games, but by being a listening ear and role model for them too.
The Exceptional Carer Award went to Ivor who is supported by the Dudley Adult Carers team. He was nominated for the work he does caring for and supporting several members of his family, running a local support group for families caring for someone with alcohol or other addition problems, and his amazing fundraising each year (including dressing up as Father Christmas!).
Finally, Dudley Carers Hub, which our Dudley Carers Wellbeing Service is part of, won the Carers Award for Adults Services. Our Dudley Adult Carers team provide free, confidential, one-to-one support to unpaid carers across Dudley and access to practical support, including a number of carer groups. The team go above and beyond to make a real positive difference to the lives of carers and their loved ones.
Congratulations to everyone involved and well done!
